The Ethiopian government has been inspecting and evaluating the orphanages in their country over the last six months.  The CCCE orphanage was re-licensed in December 2009 and received glowing reviews from the government.  The government said CCCE is a model for other organizations and demonstrates how a home should be managed.  We at Aerie Africa are grateful especially to Henok Desta for his hard work in ensuring CCCE is compliant with all the governmental requirements and his commitment to ensuring that the children have a wonderful home.

Moving the children out of the old orphanage

Not all orphanages have fared as well as CCCE.  Two weeks ago the government inspected a small orphanage in Soddo and decided to close the orphanage because of the physical and financial conditions.  The government requested CCCE to take nine of the children. These children met CCCE’s health admission criteria and ranged in age from 7 years old to 11 years old.  CCCE had capacity for the children and welcomed the children. Eleven younger children were moved to an orphanage that adopts children internationally.

Sam and Noah report the children have adapted amazingly to CCCE and are rapidly becoming part of the CCCE family.  It sounds like everyone handled the move well with just a little grumbling from the CCCE older children because the commotion disrupted their studies.
